Merger between Omantel and Oman Mobile receives approval
While it had originally set down June 2011 as the date by which it expected to introduce
mobile voice services, Mexican cableco Megacable has this month finally inaugurated quad-play bundles including
wireless voice, Latin American Herald Tribune reports. Megacable will offer
mobile services via a
mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) agreement with Movistar Mexico, a subsidiary of Spanish telecoms giant Telefonica, and under the terms of the agreement between the pair, Megacable will take responsibility for marketing, billing,
customer service,
sales and
equipment replacement. Megacable CEO Enrique Yamuni has claimed that the partnership with Movistar ‘makes a lot of sense’ due to the cableco’s
existing subscribers’ ‘mobility needs.’ The new
service will be
available to both
residential and
corporate customers, with the quad-play
package offering
cable TV, a 5Mbps downlink
broadband connection,
fixed line
voice and three
mobile handsets costing MXN829 (USD62) a month.
