FT Congo deal nears close; Iliad founder tipped as Swiss bidder

Despite reporting declining ARPU and average revenue per minute of use, China Mobile has recorded operating revenues of RNY383.8 billion (USD60.0 billion) for the nine month period ending 30 September 2011, an 8.8% increase year-on-year on the back of increased value added service (VAS) usage, especially wireless data usage. The cellco’s 3G users increased by 8.13 million in Q3 2011 to 43.16 million, with 80.2 billion MB of wireless data traffic reported for the quarter. Although China Mobile’s total subscribers increased by 16.73 million in Q3 2011 to 633.52 million, voice usage only increased by 6.5 billion minutes; the cellco put this down to an increasing number of low-usage and multiple SIM card customers.
