Claro seeks removal of conditions imposed on Digicel deal
Privately-owned Nepalese operator Spice Nepal Private Ltd, trading under the brand
name Ncell, says it will
make good on a
commitment to pay royalties totalling NPR20 billion (USD269.3 million) by 2017, but only if rivals, including state owned Nepal Telecom (NT) agree to clear their
payments too. Questioned by lawmakers from the country’s Public Accounts Committee (PAC), Ncell board member Chandi Prasad Shrestha, argued that technical jargon such as ‘limited mobility’ and ‘rural
telecom service provider’ were muddying the water and effectively giving some
operators a shield to hide behind when it comes to paying royalties. ‘When all the
operators are providing [a] similar kind of service, why should some
operators get privileges in the
