Augere contracts Huawei for WiMAX expansion
Brazil’s government is studying the possibility of backing a new entrant in the country’s fledgling
mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) market,
telecom regulator Anatel board member Emilia Ribeiro has told BNamericas. According to Ribeiro, federal savings bank Caixa Economica Federal could partner with a telco to offer a
service aimed at welfare recipients of national
scheme Bolsa Familia, allowing then to withdraw
money in supermarkets and
public places via their
mobile phones. Ribeiro added that other
public agencies including postal
operator Correios do Brasil are looking into entering the MVNO segment.
